A boom of construction is in the works just about anywhere a person can look along the County 99 corridor near I-75 in Findlay. Signs of incredible growth – boundless construction barrels and vehicles, rows of soon-to-be-installed pipes, imposing heaps of dirt and gravel – all alive with constant motion as bustling workers transform the very landscape.

The construction is an exciting result of strategic planning and preparation on the part of Findlay Hancock County Economic Development, the City of Findlay, Hancock County and other local officials, a culmination of nearly 10 years of foresight. From leading the charge for the diverging diamond interchange now under construction by the Ohio Department of Transportation, to site and utility planning and preparation, land acquisition, helping to fund housing studies, and more – the County Road 99 corridor is primed for the development underway.

“Our team has worked diligently to create an environment that attracts investment,” said Dan Sheaffer, executive director of Findlay Hancock County Economic Development and president / CEO of The Alliance. “The tremendous growth we’re witnessing in this area is a testament to our strategic planning and commitment to making it an appealing destination for businesses and residents alike. It’s very rewarding and exciting to see.”

A roundup of projects underway:

Diverging Diamond Interchange

Construction began in June on the new diverging diamond, a redesign of the I-75 / CR 99 interchange that will improve safety and travel efficiency in this rapidly growing area.  The $30.8 million upgrade is due for completion in Spring of 2026. Over the course of the project ODOT crews will construct a new bridge and ramps south of the current bridge, replace the current bridge deck, reconstruct CR 99 along the north and south sides of the corridor, and install new signage, lighting and signals.

Sheetz, Inc.

Site improvements are underway – water and sewer have been installed, electric is in progress, and crews are widening CR 230 – to prepare for the groundbreaking of Sheetz Inc.’s $145 million facility for food preparation, distribution and offices this fall. The 511,704-square-foot facility will supply the company’s convenience stores and is expected to create 750 jobs. To be located north of CR 99 between CR 230 and CR 212, the Sheetz facility is slated for completion in spring or summer of 2026.

Just down the road, Sheetz will build a $3.7 million convenience store-restaurant-gas station with a carwash at the northeast corner of North Main Street and CR 99, scheduled to open toward the end of 2025. A second station was approved by Findlay Planning Commission last month near the intersection of Tiffin Avenue and Croy Drive in front of RP Home & Harvest.

Ohio Logistics

Construction began in July, and the foundation of Ohio Logistics’ new $15.8 million, state-of-the-art warehouse facility is taking shape. The 208,000 square foot building will be located a block south of CR 99, at the east side of Hamlet Drive and south of CR 212 and will serve local and regional industry. Currently, Ohio Logistics employs about 250 people at its Findlay locations, and the warehouse will result in 15 to 20 new jobs. The building will include 22 truck docks and is slated for completion by July 2025.

RaceTrac

RaceTrac is nearing completion of a new gas station-convenience store located north of CR 99 and just east of I-75. The 8,100 square-foot facility will employ 25 to 30 people, with a convenience store, 16-pump fueling station, five truck fueling lanes and a truck scale. An exciting added benefit of the project is that RaceTrac will extend Speedway Drive north toward property that has been annexed and zoned and is ready for future development.

Blanchard Valley Health System

Work has begun on BVHS’s Wellness Park, a $40 million group of facilities located on Wellness Way (formerly Technology Drive) off of CR 99. According to the BVHS website, the 73,000 square foot complex will establish a regional center for rheumatology, endocrinology, diabetes management and research. The complex will also house primary care, laboratory and imaging services, orthopedics and sports medicine, and physical therapy and rehab. BVHS’s new facilities will “create efficiencies through collaboration of complementary medical practices” and “address the healthcare needs of a growing portion of the BVHS service area,” the website states. This exciting development is slated for completion in early 2025.
