A 374-unit development by Casto Communities of Columbus will be constructed, beginning in April of 2025, to the east of Wellness Way (formerly Technology Drive) off of County Road 99, just west of I-75. The development is one of several on the horizon, marking a trend in housing growth in Hancock County.
Casto Communities 374-Unit Development One of Several Exciting Projects to be Constructed
A soon-to-be-built 374-unit townhome / apartment residential project on the north side of Findlay marks an exciting win – and a trend in housing growth – for Findlay Hancock County Economic Development’s long-term strategy to support the area’s workforce.
“The number one challenge for our workforce has been housing and so we have strategically worked with the county and city to create an environment that supports housing growth, especially in that gateway area on the north side of Findlay,” said Dan Sheaffer, president / CEO of The Alliance and executive director of Findlay Hancock County Economic Development.
“When you have 350 families moving to Findlay, it creates more revenue for the city through income tax, the workforce supports our local businesses, we have more people shopping and eating at local restaurants – all lucrative benefits of this organic growth.”
The 374-unit development by Casto Communities out of Columbus will be located to the east of Wellness Way, (formerly Technology Drive) off of County Road 99, just west of I-75 and the new diverging diamond interchange under construction. FHCED was a driving force behind the diverging diamond, now under construction by the Ohio Department of Transportation – a catalyst to growth and a much-needed safety upgrade in the area.
The Casto development will offer townhomes with attached garages and detached garages; one, two and three-bedrooms units; and some one-story apartments. Residents will be able to enjoy amenities including a clubhouse with a pool, workout facility, coffee bar, and office space. Plans include open space throughout the development with pedestrian sidewalks and plenty of parking.
“This is a new market for us. We’ve had our eye on the Findlay market, and it’s a great market,” said Brent Sobczak, president of Casto Communities. “Findlay is appealing because it’s steady. It has a good business environment, a university, and we really like that location near the new interchange. Findlay has a great employment base and is continuing to grow. That growth attracted us, and we think there is more to come. We’re excited to be there.”
The townhomes will be designed by Sullivan Bruck Architects out of Columbus. Construction is slated for April of 2025 and should be completed in 24 to 28 months, Sobczak said.
“Findlay is a job hub with good paying jobs, good wages,” Sheaffer said. “A lot of our employees commute to Findlay every day, about 21,000 people. Pre-Covid, that number was 25,000. We are making progress and will continue to take steps that encourage the housing options in Findlay to grow.”
Additional housing developments on the way:
