To support the operation of Sheetz’s new $169 million Findlay facility for food preparation, distribution and offices – expected to create about 750 jobs in the next five years – the first major wave of hiring will begin in the spring of 2026.

“There’s a real excitement around it,” said Malcolm Robinson, director of operations, supply chain, for Findlay Sheetz. “We’ll be hiring around 750 people over of the course of the next few years, but for sure as we open up, I can see a good 400 being hired within the next year.”

Construction of the facility, located north of CR 99 between CR 230 and CR 212, began in October of 2024 and is running on schedule to go live in October of 2026. The facility will produce 75 to 80 percent of the products sold at Sheetz stores – sandwiches, salads, subs, pizza, and fresh bakery items like donuts and cookies. Distribution partners will bring the rest of the items (for example Pepsi drinks or Coke products) to the distribution center to be stocked and as the need arises, distributed to the stores.

Chris Keller, executive director of Findlay-Hancock County Economic Development, welcomes Sheetz as an excellent addition to the community.

“The opening of Sheetz’s new production facility in Findlay represents more than an investment in bricks and mortar – it’s an investment in people,” she said. “Sheetz’s philosophy perfectly aligns with our community’s values, emphasizing opportunity, growth and a culture that puts its team members first. We’re proud to welcome a company that believes success begins with supporting its people.”

Sheetz, Inc. was founded in 1952 in Altoona, PA and is headquartered there. Sheetz’s convenience store-gas stations tout a Made-to-Order fast-food menu, bakery items, specialty coffees, ice cream, and “everything you need.” Sheetz operates more than 800 stores in seven states and employs more than 26,000 people. The company has been recognized for an employee-oriented environment and community advocacy.

In Findlay, Sheetz opened a new convenience store-gas station at 1880 Tiffin Ave. this summer, and a second location – a convenience store-restaurant-gas station with a carwash – is nearing completion at the Northeast corner of North Main Street and County Road 99. In the last few years, the family-owned company has undergone major expansion into Ohio and Michigan, with more than 130 convenience store-gas stations opening in Ohio, three in Michigan, and many more on the way.

“Sheetz continues to move west,” Robinson said. “Findlay is very central for us and our leadership team was very intentional about putting Findlay on the map based on where we wanted to grow. We’re expanding north into southern Michigan – we’ll have 40 to 50 stores in the Toledo and Detroit areas – and we would like to get into central Michigan and beyond. Right now, we are as far south in Ohio as the Dayton area.”

The current plan for the Findlay distribution center is to serve Ohio and Michigan – about 250 stores, many of which are still being built. The site selection process occurred before he was onboard, but Robinson said Sheetz leadership appreciated Findlay for its welcoming nature, cleanliness, location, proven success and growth of industry, and that, “it has a small town feel but has everything you need – they thought it was a really cool place.”

When complete, the 655,000-square-foot facility will be the second largest of Sheetz’s three distribution facilities. The other two are located in Claysburg, PA and Burlington, NC. Burlington is the newer of the two and began operation about 12 years ago.

Robinson said a few senior level managers are still being hired now, and likely this winter, they will bring on their teams – additional tiers of 15 to 20 managers who will hire those working on the front line. There will be heavily advertised hiring events in the spring held at the distribution center and at Owens Community College. Those interested in employment can follow Sheetz LinkedIn page or check the Sheetz website for updates.

Robinson said Sheetz will offer flexible scheduling – rotating 10-hour shifts for most distribution services and bakery operations. They are assessing pay range for job opportunities now; compensation will be competitive with the area market.

More fun facts about Sheetz’s Findlay Distribution Center:

  • There will be a “Shwellness Center” (wellness center) for employees featuring urgent care with physician assistants, a full gym, and a sauna. “Employees will be able to come in and use it all and relax,” Robinson said. “…Our urgent care will be not just for on-site incidents; you can go get checkups or use it for anything that you may need. It will be unique to any other employer; I think we’ll have a lot of interest.”
  • There will be an on-site cafeteria. “It won’t just have our food, it will be a full cafeteria, and with having a full bakery on-site there’s a lot of testing that we’ll do, so there will be a lot of opportunity for people to test out our new bakery products. They can let us know how good they are – if it’s worth taking it out to market. There will be plenty of treats around, so it’s probably good we’ve got the Shwellness Center,” Robinson said, chuckling.
  • The Sheetz DC is already running eight distribution routes with 17 CDL drivers and seven non-CDL and / or assistants on the job. When fully operational, the center will support 30 routes. Each of the 250 stores the center will service will receive three truck deliveries per week, Robinson said.
  • Construction of the Sheetz facility is almost fully enclosed just in time for winter, when attention will shift inside. Pennsylvania company PJ Dick is partnering with Granger Construction Company, Columbus, to complete the work. The floors were scheduled to take about six weeks to pour, and during that time, 30 to 40 trucks per week have brought concrete to the site.
  • Robinson and his family walked with a Sheetz truck in the Findlay Halloween parade and passed out treats.

Sheetz is a community-minded company and, at a media event in June awarded a $10,000 check to both the Findlay-Hancock County Alliance and non-profit Habitat for Humanity. A group of Sheetz employees helped build Habitat for Humanity homes that were recently dedicated. Sheetz had a truck in the 2025 Cops & Kids Findlay Halloween Parade and Robinson and his family passed out treats, Sheetz bags and plushies. Robinson dressed up as the chef from South Park and his kids were hot dogs. “I think I embarrassed my kids – it was a lot of fun – great experience,” Robinson said.
  • Robinson is originally from Fostoria. For several years he worked for Home Depot as supply chain assistant manager, then general manager living in Northwest Ohio, Georgia and California. He and his family always wanted to come back to Northwest Ohio and when the opportunity arose for Sheetz, he was excited to take it.
Construction continues on Sheetz's 9 million production and distribution facility in Findlay. About 400 people will be hired in the next year to support its operation.
